The Detroit Pistons tried their best to beat the New York Knicks on Thursday night, but in the end the Pistons aren’t a very good team and the Knicks have Julius Randle. That was the difference in a 114-104 Knicks win that was a bit too close for late comfort.
How good has Randle been this season? This property:
Randle notched 27 clinical points on 11-19 shots, 16 rebounds and 7 assists. He looked like he was barely sweating there as he passed Detroit and built up his muscles, especially during the break.
Still, the Pistons refused to leave. They reduced a 19-point deficit to 10 and looked for single digits when they found big man Mason Plumlee at the break. Julius didn’t have it.
RJ Barrett excelled as a right-hand man to Randle (who just happens to be a southpaw). The 20-year-old tallied 21 points on 9-13 to go with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. It continued to be wedge money.

Elfrid Payton (20 points) had a very good return game from injury and Nerlens Noel (12 points, 11 rebounds) has continued his strong game lately.
The bench struggled, but Frank Ntilikina had a fun first half, hitting three triples in quick succession.
Well, that’s it for the first half of the 2020-21 season. The Knicks are 19-18 years old, which stuns the mind. Recap to come.
