Knicks are still looking for Victor Oladipo for a potential trade

The Houston Rockets are at least listening to commercial offers from Victor Oladipo.

The Knicks are still interested, reports New York Post’s Marc Berman.

Oladipo, however, remains on the line for the Knicks as the Rockets are set to trade him at the deadline as they slip into oblivion. Oladipo will be a free agent in 2021 and would like to sign with the Heat. That would make Oladipo a hire as the Knicks look to beef up their bid to break a seven-year playoff drought.

Knicks general manager Scott Perry, while with the Magic, drafted Oladipo second overall in 2013, and he’s been a supporter of a potential trade. But Perry is no longer the primary decision maker.

It’s Leon Rose, who also realizes that Oldipo and the new RJ Barrett play the same role in the offense. He also knows that Oladipo did not return to his All-NBA form after his injury, he recently missed a handful of games with a foot injury (the latest in a series of injuries), and while he averages 20 points per game, shooting just 33.1% out of three. The Knicks would also have to drop several players to match Oladipo’s $ 21 million salary (Frank Ntilikina, Alec Burks and Austin Rivers for Oladipo could work, but would the Rockets want those players?)

The bigger question is, can the Knicks re-sign Oladipo if they trade for him? For a long time, the buzz around the league has been that Oladipo wants to travel to Miami as a free agent; the Knicks might have to pay too much to keep him. Plus, New York wouldn’t want to give up a lot to praise Oladipo for a playoff push this season.

The Knicks want to make the playoffs and would consider a trade that would help them in the short term. New York may well be active at maturity.

Whether that would include Oladipo is another question.
