Knicks’ Julius Randle angry after failed call to Nets

A decisive misfire forced a furious New York Knicks to be escorted off the field on Monday, and you’ll be shocked to learn that Scott Foster was involved.

In the dying seconds of the New York Knicks’ game against Crosstown rival Brooklyn Nets, Julius Randle received the ball three runs with 5.7 seconds left. Randle jumped up to take a 3 point disputed by Kyrie Irving, but kept the ball and landed.

At first glance, it was a top-to-bottom manual journey. A replay, however, showed that Irving did indeed hit the ball as Randle approached to shoot:

Randle immediately took issue with Foster’s roaming call, but the official didn’t even let the call go to an instant replay.

The Nets quickly put the game aside with a pair of free throws from James Harden, at which point Randle seemed to want to fix the score. Immediately after the game was over, Randle approached midfield and appeared to be looking for someone, until his teammates pushed him back to their locker room.

Randle took out his frustrations in a chair as he entered the tunnel:

The call and argument ended a terrible night for Randle, who finished with 33 points on 13 of 27 shots, 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

After the game, Randle refused to say anything befitting the situation:

There was a conversation, but I think it’s best not to comment on the situation. There is a lot of frustration behind this on both sides. I’m just going to let this be a thing of the past and move on to the next game.

Meanwhile, Foster told a reporter that he considered Irving to have touched the ball, but not to have dislodged it, which made it a trip for him.

Randle entered Monday averaging 22.9 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, all career highs in a breakout season for the former seventh overall pick.
