Most New York Knicks fans probably did not want their tank team to win Tuesday night, but given the evolution of the game, it was hard for them to be upset. The Knicks took over in the fourth quarter, beating the Orlando Magic 30-13 in the frame to complete a 16-point comeback and win 108-103.
Great rookie Mitchell Robinson continued his impressive season. In the absence of the starting center, DeAndre Jordan, he brought incredible energy to both ends of the match and finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks and three interceptions. Robinson's performances not only helped the Knicks to win, but they also placed him in an exclusive and historic group.
Robinson has become the third rookie in the past 25 years to double in at least five blocks in consecutive games. The two others? Oh, just legendary Hall of Fame member Yao Ming and Spurs legend Tim Duncan.
During the Knicks' win against the Spurs on Sunday night, which put an end to the team's 18-game home defeat, Robinson recorded 15 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. This two-game stretch continued during an impressive February for Robinson, who totaled 10.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game against the bench for the month.
Statistical achievements such as this one do not guarantee future success, of course, but it's never a bad thing to go through important milestones that only legends like Yao and Duncan have crossed.
There may not be much reason to be excited about the Knicks right now, but Robinson is certainly one of them.
