In honor of Melania Trump, a Slovenian artist has created a statue of the first lady.

But the people of Sevnica, Trump's home town, are divided on whether the grossly realized abstract work is an art or the result of a chainsaw massacre.

"In Sevnica, we can only laugh and, at the same time, hold our head in the hands of the catastrophic reputation (of the Trumps)," said a 24-year-old architecture student from the region, identified only by Nika, moaning at the Agency. France-Presse. "If the monument was supposed to be a parody, the artist succeeded."

The creator of this creation is the Berlin-based artist Brad Downey from Berlin. He contacted Ales "Maxi" Zupvec, a self-proclaimed amateur sculptor to carve the piece, to carve the work, AFP reported.

The sculpture, depicting Trump wearing a blue dress with his left hand raised – supposed to mimic a pose at Donald Trump's inauguration in 2019 – was carved into a tree with a chainsaw.

SHOW CAPTION

Primitive creation, larger than life, has been considered by some critics as a "scarecrow".

"I can understand why people might think that this does not fit with a description of her physical appearance," Downey told AFP, while asserting that the creation was "absolutely gorgeous".

Since President Trump took office, Sevnica, which has about 5,000 inhabitants, has become a hotbed for tourists and journalists.

But at least one person believes that the statue is the pride of the First Lady.

"Melania is a Slovenian hero," said a resident of Rozno, 66, who identified herself as Katarina. "It has reached the top in the United States"
