Ronald Koeman praised his Barcelona side after Saturday’s impressive 2-0 win over Sevilla in La Liga.

Goals from Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi gave Barca all three points and saw the team take second place in the table.

Koeman changed his system for the game, using three center-backs, and spoke about his decision to change tactics after the game.

“We tried to put pressure on the opponent and playing with three center-backs and full-backs pressed high allowed us not to let Sevilla play. This was the key. It’s a risky system, but without the ball we pressed and tried to play head-to-head. Our game off the ball was key. It was a complete game.

“It’s a good change that we saw in 2021, even though we lost some points at the start. Today we show that we are still very much alive and this is very important. I am proud, especially when it comes to the physical aspect. They have a physically very strong team and we were able to match them off the ball, and with the ball we were very good, very calm.

Barca’s new system worked well and the visitors could even have had more goals. It will be interesting to see now whether Koeman sticks to training when the teams meet on Wednesday or turns things around again.
