GEAR 2021: Korg ARP 2600 FS was a loving and authentic reboot of the famous old synth, but it wasn’t for everyone. To start with, it was huge, then there was the outrageous price. Oh, and good luck getting one too.
We hope the ARP 2600 M will solve all these problems. This comes in at a more manageable 60% of the size of the original, making it lighter and more portable, and we hope it will be more readily available than its big brother.
• NAMM 2021 is canceled, but we’ll be covering all of January’s big gear announcements right here on MusicRadar.
Inside, however, you have the same analog circuitry as the ARP 2600 FS, so it should sound just as good. There’s a slight difference to the spring reverb – it’s been redesigned and tailored to fit the smaller body size – but we’re promised the same lush quality of effect.
The ARP 2600 M is a real sonic playground, with oscillators, envelopes, filter, and amplifier that can be patched together. Other features include ring modulation, delay and voltage processors, envelope follower, audio preamp, clock capable switch, noise source, sample and hold module, signal inverters, an auxiliary mixer and a set of / multiple sockets.
The synth does not come with a keyboard, but you can plug in any class-compliant MIDI controller.
