Christopher Krebs, the top federal cybersecurity official who was sacked by President Trump

In the interview, part of which aired Friday on “CBS This Morning,” correspondent Scott Pelley read a statement Krebs released earlier this month on behalf of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), stating that “tThe November 3 election was the safest in American history. … There is no evidence that a voting system suppressed or lost votes or altered votes or was compromised in any way.
“Yeah, I’m sticking with that,” Krebs told Pelley.
The president tweeted after the statement, quoting: ‘Chris Krebs’ recent statement on the security of the 2020 elections was very inaccurate in that there were massive irregularities and fraud, “” Pelley continued. “Do you remember what the president said at the end of that tweet?”
“Oh, was I fired?” Krebs asked. “Yes, I remember.
“Were you surprised? Pelley replied.
“I don’t know if I was necessarily surprised. This is not how I wanted to go out,” Krebs said.
“I think what bothers me the most is that I haven’t had the chance to say goodbye to my team,” continued the former director of CISA. “And I had worked with them for three and a half years, in the trenches. Build an agency, put CISA on the national scene. And I love this team. And I haven’t had a chance to say goodbye, so that’s what bothers me the most. “
In Trump’s tweet last week, the president wrote that Krebs’ dismissal was “effective immediately”.
“Poll observers not allowed to enter polling places, ‘problems’ in the voting machines that changed votes from Trump to Biden, late votes and many more,” the president said in an attempt to challenge Krebs’ statement.
These allegations, among others of electoral fraud and voting irregularities, have since been challenged by several courts as Trump’s legal team attempts to challenge election results in major battlefield states.

At the press conference, Giuliani cited several now debunked allegations of electoral fraud. He also has cited a scene from the movie “My Cousin Vinny” in which a character is too far from a crime scene to be a credible witness claiming that the Trump campaign was not allowed close enough to observe the vote count in Pennsylvania.
In his role as CISA chief, Krebs coordinated with national and local authorities to strengthen electoral security following Russian interference in 2016.
On the night of Krebs’ sacking, Deputy Director Matthew Travis resigned and senior cybersecurity official Bryan Ware resigned the week before following pressure from the White House.
The full “60 Minute” interview with Krebs is scheduled to air Sunday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
