The actress, comedian and writer, best known for playing Mel in Theft of concordes, was contacted by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will write for season 11 after watching his internet series Penelope Princess of Pets with Kurt Braunohler.
However, as a huge fan of the series, Schaal’s eagerness became an issue in the writer’s room.
Talk to The daily beast, Schaal said, “I didn’t last long. I was there for about a month… and got a warning that I was talking too much.
“I was throwing too much. I had never been in a writer’s room before. So I was like, let me make a living. I was like, ‘What about this? What do you say about this? What do you say about that? ‘ And that’s not how it works.
In 2007, South Park Also often leaned on movie parodies – something Schaal didn’t have much experience with. “I couldn’t go, so I kept throwing something else. So looking back, yeah, they let me go. I could do a writers room now, just for everyone who listens, but I was too nervous and too excited to be there.
The experience did not dampen his enthusiasm for the show, however, despite the dismissal being “devastating” at the time, adding: “I mean, I’m such a South Park fan. I think South Park is honestly one of the most underrated cultural shows. I think people took it for granted at this point. But it is such a force.
“And I grew up in Colorado, went to school at the University of Colorado for a year. So I was amazed. “
With roles in Theft of concordes, Schaal provided voices for Bob’s burgers and Gravity falls, and played Carol Pilbasian in The last man on earth.
South Park will also be on screens for a while. The show has been renewed through Season 30 on Comedy Central, while 14 original films based on the series are also on their way to Paramount + before 2027.
