INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Kroger recalls the frozen berries sold under its Private Selection brand because of possible contamination by hepatitis A.
Triple Blend of Frozen Berries (48 oz), Triple Blend of Frozen Berries (16 oz) and 16 oz of Private Frozen Berries are part of the recall.
The fruit is made by Townsend Farms.
No case of client's illness has been reported. The FDA informed Kroger that a sample of private selection frozen berries had been tested and found to be contaminated with hepatitis A.
These are the recalled products:
- PRIVATE SELECTION TRIPLE BERRY MEDLEY FROZEN, 48 OZ (BETTER: 07-07-20; UPC: 0001111079120);
- TRIPLE BERRY MEDLEY FROZEN PRIVATE SELECTION, 16 OZ (BEST BY: 06-19-20; UPC: 0001111087808);
- PRIVATE SELECTION BLACKBERRIES FROZEN, 16 OZ (BETTER: 06-19-20, 07-02-20; UPC: 0001111087809)
Kroger removed the potentially affected racks from store shelves and warned customers who purchased the recalled products through cassette tape and phone calls.
Customers who have purchased the berries must return them to a store for a full refund or replacement.
Customers with questions can contact Kroger at 1-800-KROGERS Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to midnight EST and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 9:30 pm. IS.
Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease resulting from exposure to the hepatitis A virus. This can range from a mild illness of a few weeks to a serious illness of several months. The disease usually occurs within 15 to 50 days of exposure and includes fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver tests, dark urine and pale stools. The vaccine against hepatitis A can prevent the disease if it is administered within two weeks of exposure to a contaminated food.
In rare cases, especially in consumers who are already seriously ill or immunocompromised, hepatitis A may progress to liver failure.
People with symptoms should consult a doctor as soon as possible.
