Federal officials warn consumers
avoid certain brands of frozen berries
sold at Kroger and other grocery stores, fearing hepatitis A contamination.
The berries have been sold nationwide under the brand "private selection" of the grocery store. The contamination was discovered during a
sampling of frozen berries by the
Food and Drug Administration, said the grocery chain.
"These products are available at Kroger and other outlets and have a shelf life of two years (…)." The FDA continues its research to determine if there are any other products, "said the FDA.

Private Selection Frozen Triangle Medley in 48 ounce size, Berry Frozen Triple Medley in the 16-ounce Private Selection and Blackberry Frozen from the 16-ounce Private Selection.

- PRIVATE SELECTION TRIPLE BERRY MEDLEY FROZEN, 16 OZ (BEST BY: 06-19-20; UPC: 0001111087808)
- PRIVATE SELECTION BLACKBERRIES FROZEN, 16 OZ (BETTER: 06-19-20, 07-02-20; UPC: 0001111087809)
No hepatitis A related to the consumption of these products has been reported, the FDA announced.
Fever, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and yellowing of the skin or eyes are some of the symptoms of hepatitis A.
"The hepatitis A virus can cause an infection of the liver that may be unapparent.However, when the symptoms appear, their severity can range from a mild illness of a few weeks to a serious illness of several months" , said the FDA.
Consumers who ate the recalled frozen berries are advised to consult their health care professional to determine if vaccination is appropriate. Those with symptoms should receive treatment immediately.
