National Economic Advisor to President Trump, Larry KudlowLawrence (Larry) Alan KudlowMORE, said Sunday that reports that international leaders warn that US tariffs could lead to a global recession are false.

At an appearance in CNN's "State of the Union", Kudlow denied that world leaders are expressing concern over the ongoing trade war between Trump and China.

CNN aired an excerpt of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, one of Trump's closest allies, at a summit meeting of the Group of Seven (G-7) in Biarritz, France. Johnson expresses doubts about Trump's tariff increases, along with other leaders throughout the summit.

"I'm not sure I agree with the way you describe this – I was at this meeting," Kudlow said.

"It's a quote," replied Brianna Keilar of CNN.

"Sometimes you take a quote out of context," said Kudlow.

Kudlow said the "overall context" of Johnson's remarks was in favor of Trump's policy.

Kudlow told CNN that the G-7 summit in Biarritz, France, "has gone very well."

"Better than we thought, with a very positive mood, I would go so far as to say that the rally was solid," said Kudlow.

The senior economic adviser also rejected widespread warnings that tariffs would hurt working-class Americans.

"Whatever the occasion [there is] tariffs, is reduced to nothing by tax cuts, "he said.

Mr Kudlow also said that he could not promise that a trade deal with China would be concluded on election day in 2020.
