This morning, Ming-Chi Kuo released an analyst note acknowledging that Apple encountered manufacturing issues during the ramp-up of production of the new Apple Watch, which is expected to be unveiled at the Apple event on Tuesday. September 14.
However, Kuo claims that Apple and its suppliers have now overcome these issues and mass production will begin soon. The analyst expects the new line of watches to be released in late September.
Unsurprisingly, Kuo says the Series 7’s biggest feature will be the “dramatic design change,” as Apple prepares an iPhone 12-esque look for the watch with flat sides and square edges.
Screen sizes are expected to increase significantly and the surrounding screen bezel will be reduced compared to current models. Bloomberg previously announced that the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7 will sport 16% more pixels than the current 44mm model it replaces.
Kuo says early production issues were mostly caused by the new approach to screen assembly. Even though the design changes on the outside, Apple is also using many new production processes for the internal components.
Kuo says early batches of Series 7 watches were affected by issues with the flashing panel and touchscreen sensitivity. However, the analyst believes Apple and its suppliers recently addressed the panel module issues and are now ready for imminent mass production, with mass shipments coming later in the month.
