Following a report from late July, Ming-Chi Kuo released today with a new analyst note on the next-gen MacBook Air. While many of the details remain the same as Kuo’s previous predictions, the note mentions that the MacBook Air 2022 with mini-LED will be available in multiple colors with an updated form factor that will match the design of the upcoming MacBook Pros 14. and 16 inches. .
We’ve been hearing about the upcoming MacBook Air over the past few months. Today’s note from Kuo doesn’t offer much new, but it does reveal the prediction that the 2022 MacBook Air will be available in a variety of colors with a new hardware design.
Kuo says BOE will become Apple’s new supplier for mini-LED display technology. Following its arrival on the 2021 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple is expected to bring the same to the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro machines that are expected to arrive soon.
After the updated MacBook Pro models, Kuo reiterates that the new MacBook Air is expected to launch “around mid-2022”.
Along with expectations for mini-LEDs and a new Apple Silicon SoC, Kuo says the new Air will feature “multiple color options” and “the form factor design will be similar to the new MacBook Pro 3Q21.” . Color options are something we heard about in early July.
As for the hardware design, that should mean the MacBook Air will feature more square edges like the current iPad Pro design. However, it’s unclear at this time if that will mean the end of the MacBook Air’s tapered design or if it could stay with the square edges.
Kuo also says it’s uncertain whether the existing MacBook Air M1 will persist after the new model is released, but estimates that the total MacBook Air shipments in 2022 will reach 8 million or more. This is an increase from the projection of around 6 million shipments for 2021.
