Ming-Chi Kuo, a reliable analyst at Apple, today releases a new note outlining his predictions regarding the 2020 iPhone lineup, including the all-new form factor. He also shares the predictions of how this year's lineup should take advantage of broadband radio technology to improve inland navigation with a new generation of iBeacons.
Today's note from Kuo includes its prediction of the most important outlets for the 2020 iPhone range. It lists three key enhancements: "(1) a brand new form factor design, (2) a plug in charge of the 5G and (3) camera function upgrades. "He expects these changes to next year's iPhones will lead to record growth.
Apple was waiting until next year for a major refresh of the iPhone design. It was expected that the range of iPhone 11 retains the same design as the iPhone X and XS, with the exception of the new square camera module.
Kuo did not develop the new design or what next year's camera enhancement might include in his latest note. But Kuo had previously announced that the 2020 iPhone cameras would include rear-flight time sensors. These could improve the quality of the image and offer new augmented reality features. Previously, he had also predicted that with the design change in 2020, next year's OLED iPhones would be offered in sizes of 5.4 and 6.7 inches, instead of the current iPhone XS and XS Max of 5.8 and 6.5 inches.
Kuo and others have been predicting for a while now that 5G support will come to iPhone next year, which means the iPhone 11 lineup will give up support for the next-generation standard for cell phone, which has just been deployed by operators.
Today's report contains other predictions, especially on this year's ultra-wide band iPhone technology, which would come with the new antenna design. Kuo had previously predicted that UWB support would come with the iPhone 11 lineup and he said today that new iBeacons using short-range radio technology could offer improvements to inland navigation on aircraft. He believes the new "UWB tags" will work with Bluetooth-based iBeacons to provide an "innovative user experience" for indoor mapping.
