LAS VEGAS – Kyle Daukaus is not happy with how things turned out on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 193.
The UFC middleweight subdued his opponent Kevin Holland with a choke in the back, but his fight was deemed a no-contest instead of a win. Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Holland (21-7 MMA, 8-4 UFC) accidentally clashed before the finishing streak. Holland was injured and fell facing the canvas, which allowed Daukaus to get back to his feet and eventually sink into the choke.
Daukaus believes he should have taken the win and is not happy with the no-contest decision.
“It just annoys me,” Daukaus told reporters at the UFC Fight Night 193 post-fight press conference. “He recovered from the head butt in a way, and Dan (the referee) didn’t say anything while we were in there. He was still fighting, so it was okay, for me it was okay.
“If this had happened to me, it would have been good. If he’d gotten up and got back on his feet and knocked me out, they would’ve made a big deal out of it on ESPN saying, ‘Oh, he got a head butt and then went got up and knocked me out. But because he recuperates on a whim, gives up his back, and I’m choking him, I don’t get a contest.
Daukaus would like a rematch with Holland to obtain a more conclusive result. For now, he will focus on his brother to help him prepare for his main fight against Derrick Lewis on December 18, but believes that the start of 2022 could be a good date to get things back in hand with Holland.
“It’s going to bother me and it’s always going to bother me,” Daukaus said. “It’s going to haunt me until I get the win so it’s just more motivation throughout training.”
