Kyle Flood to join Steve Sarkisian’s team in Texas as OL offensive coordinator / coach, sources say

Texas are set to hire Alabama assistant and former Rutgers coach Kyle Flood as their new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach under Steve Sarkisian, sources have confirmed to ESPN.

Flood has spent the past two seasons at Alabama, which won a national title Monday night against Ohio State. He worked alongside Sarkisian with the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 and 2018 – Sarkisian served as the offensive coordinator and Flood coached the offensive line – before joining Nick Saban’s team in Alabama.

Flood, 49, held the last coordinating role at Rutgers in 2009 and 2010. He went on to become the head coach of Rutgers, going 27-24 in four seasons.

Horns 247 first reported that Texas needed to hire Flood.

Sarkisian, Alabama’s offensive coordinator for the past two seasons and 2020 Broyles Award winner, is expected to remain Texas’s offensive player.

“I really want to be the caller of the game. I’ll be the caller of the game,” Sarkisian recently told the Austin American-Statesman. “I made this mistake a year of my career [in 2015 at USC]. This will not happen again, not in the near future. But the reality is, part of the reason [athletic director Chris Del Conte] and the people of texas loved me because of the work i did as a playcaller. All of a sudden, why would I give up one of the best traits I have? “

Sarkisian is also expected to bring Alabama offensive analyst AJ Milwee to Texas, where he will coach quarterbacks, sources told ESPN. Milwee spent seven seasons as Akron’s offensive coordinator before coming to Alabama.
