Kyle Lowry preferred to join Heat Over 76ers, Lakers

The Miami Heat were Kyle Lowry’s favorite team if they were traded on the deadline, sources told The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor. Lowry’s close friendship with Jimmy Butler is cited as the driving force behind this preference.

The Heat can realistically create around $ 26 million in ceiling space while keeping the limits of Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn. While the maximum cap space is insufficient, this is the type of number Lowry would look for in free agency.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers were the other two teams to pursue Lowry at the deadline and neither will have cap space.

Beyond Miami, the only teams scheduled to have ceiling space are the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets, New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors. Toronto is probably the only other threat to the Heat in their efforts to sign Lowry.
