Rittenhouse appeared in a preliminary hearing via video conference, seated next to his lawyer, whose motions to dismiss some of the outstanding charges against his client were dismissed by the court. He removed a mask over his nose and mouth at one point in the hearing while sitting in his attorney’s office.

Kenosha County Commissioner Loren Keating, after hearing testimony from a detective on the case, said the state had presented enough probable causes of the crimes committed by the young man for the case to stand trial .

Rittenhouse will be arraigned Jan. 5 in Kenosha County Circuit Court.

The 17-year-old faces two felony charges of homicide in the deaths of Rosenbaum and Huber, and one charge of attempted homicide for Grosskreutz’s injury.

Riettenhouse is also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon when he was under the age of 18, a misdemeanor, according to court records.

During the hearing, Rittenhouse attorney Mark Richards accused prosecutors of presenting a “one-sided and stilted view” of the night’s events.

Richards presented screenshots from surveillance video which he said showed his client acting in self-defense while being chased by an armed protester. In another image, Rittenhouse appeared to have been hit by a skateboard while on the ground.

Richards said the state has embarked on a “chaotic quest, but the evidence is clear.”

Deputy District Attorney Thomas Binger said the state had presented evidence showing Rittenhouse committed a crime and that the issue of self-defense was on trial.

Binger also argued against Richards’ attempt to dismiss the charge of possession of a dangerous weapon by someone under the age of 18, saying the teenager “ran through the streets of Kenosha after curfew with a very dangerous weapon ”.

“We don’t trust them (the miners) with these guns because of what exactly happened in this case,” Binger said.

Keating agreed that the issues raised by the defense should be considered at trial.

Before Thursday’s hearing began, prosecutors filed a motion opposing the admission of two outside lawyers – John Pierce and Andrew Calderon – to the Rittenhouse defense team. Keating said the issue could be decided at a later date.

Grosskreutz, the sole survivor of the shooting, attended the hearing by teleconference.

Rittenhouse was released after posting a $ 2 million bond earlier this month. Attorney Lin Wood said in a tweet that Mike Lindell, CEO of My Pillow Inc., and actor Ricky Schroder helped raise the “$ 2 million cash bond” for Rittenhouse.
