Kyle Rittenhouse says he used money from a stimulus check to buy the gun he allegedly used to kill two people at a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, according to the Washington Post

According to the Post, lawyers for Rittenhouse agreed to the jail interview on the condition that Rittenhouse was not questioned about the shooting or the events that followed. Rittenhouse’s attorneys argued that Rittenhouse was acting in self-defense when he opened fire.

What led to the filming

Rittenhouse told the Post he visited Kenosha on August 24 for his lifeguard job. According to the Post, the following evening, as the protests continued, Rittenhouse and Black armed themselves and headed downtown to help a friend protect a used car dealership and provide medical assistance to people. slightly injured.

“I was going to a place where people had guns and God forbid somebody brought me a gun and decided to shoot me. Like, I wanted to be protected, which I ended up having to do. protect me, ”Rittenhouse told The Post.

Rittenhouse told the Post that he was not part of any militia group, but joined other armed men and women, whom he called “foreigners” who were also present, to help. to protect property.

“No one was instigating me and I was not instigating anyone else. Everyone was calm with me and everyone loved me. Like, I was helping everyone. So what I noticed is if you show respect to people, they’ll show you respect in return, ”Rittenhouse said.

Rittenhouse found himself at a gas station when he heard reports of cars being ignited, at which point he grabbed a fire extinguisher and started running down the street, according to the Post.

Rittenhouse reportedly fled the scene of the shooting and was chased by protesters, according to the complaint. Huber approached Rittenhouse after tripping and falling. A fight ensued and Rittenhouse allegedly shot Huber once, according to the complaint.

After shooting Huber, Rittenhouse shot Grosskreutz in the right arm, according to the complaint.

Rittenhouse was able to leave the filming location still armed because he walked towards officers with his hands raised, Kenosha Police Chief Daniel Miskin said at the time.

Rittenhouse doesn’t regret having a gun that night

Rittenhouse’s mother revealed Rittenhouse’s shaken condition when she arrived at Black’s house to look for him.

CNN contacted Grosskreutz’s attorney who called Rittenhouse’s allegations of using stimulus money to buy a gun “disturbing” and “egregious.”

Rittenhouse faces two charges of homicide and attempted homicide in the shooting. He was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18, a misdemeanor.
