LA Galaxy 2, Philadelphia Union 0 | Summary of the match MLS 2019

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a brace in the first half to bring the LA Galaxy to a 2-0 win at the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Ibrahimovic, who defeated Carlos Vela in the Golden Boot presented by Audi in the two-goal race, opened his account in the 27th minute when he jumped over Auston Trusty to meet Jorgen Skjelvik's goal and beat Andre Blake.

Ibrahimovic then hung on a service from Jonathan dos Santos, but crashed into the penalty area, following contact with Kai Wagner. Referee David Gantar pointed to the penalty spot, a confirmed call after a long video review.

Ibrahimovic finished clinically in the side net, Blake diving in the other direction. Any chance of a return from the Union was thwarted in the 76th minute when Trusty was sent off for his second offense to book.

While Philadelphia's winning streak broke in three games, the main concern is the health of midfielder Marco Fabian, who suffered an ankle injury after 23 minutes.

Three things

  • THE GREAT IMAGE: In a losing team match, it was one-way traffic. The Galaxy won its fourth straight and fifth in its first six games and secured a second clear no-fault goal, while the Union has a three-game winning streak and a series of games without losing four games, was broken at Carson.
  • MOMENT OF THE GAME: Ibrahimovic has affixed his mark, and asserted his dominance over this early game. But should he have been called to make a mistake for crossing Trusty's back?
  • MAN OF THE GAME: Ibrahimovic has scored two more goals to once again dominate the young defense of the Union and is currently ahead of Golden Boot record holder Josef Martinez through six games of the season. If he stays healthy, who knows how many goals he will end up with?
