343 Industries shares an explanation for its silence surrounding Halo Infinite’s status since the game’s delay in 2021 after its abysmal reveal.

Developers of the next Infinite Halo, 343 Industries, have finally addressed the lack of recent game news. Originally slated to release alongside the Xbox Series X / S this holiday season, Infinite Halo has been delayed in part due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Since the delay, the only news that came out regarding the status of the game was the departure of Chris Lee, Infinite Halothe third director in a year. However, just like Infinite HaloLee’s status, Lee’s departure is still shrouded in mystery, for no concrete reason given. Lee’s departure was back at the end of October and, until last week, 343 Industries had remained silent.

As reported by the Halo Waypoint website, 343 Industries has finally commented on the status of Infinite Halo last week. The post, written by community manager John “Unyshek” Junyszek, first acknowledges the calm of 343 Industries:

We want nothing more than to answer your questions. We can’t wait to get into the details on the rich history and characters of the Halo Infinite campaign … But to get it right and make the game – and the talented team that designed it – do it justice, we need to show rather than say. Of course, that begs the question, “When are you going to show all of this?” The best we can say at the moment is “when it’s ready”. It’s not the same as “when it’s done”, but it’s still “not yet”.

The following paragraph explains why this is the case,

Our marketing and promotion teams have been working for over a year in most cases to ensure that Halo Infinite is everywhere possible during these holidays to support gaming and the launch of the Xbox Series X. So when gaming rolled out of 2020, the million moving parts in Halo Gear, brand partnerships, marketing, Xbox, legal, retail, and community had to take stock, recalibrate, and readjust.

The update also gives a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of some of the sounds and artwork going into. Infinite Halo. The above paragraphs are the first comments on why the public hasn’t heard much about the status of the game lately. Previously, 343 Industries’ latest public comments on Infinite Halo concerned the controversial armor coating system, and that was before Lee left.

When creating great Triple-A titles like Infinite Halo, there are so many more factors at play apart from the status of the game. As the update points out, various promotional services and partnerships were also affected and had to readjust. The 343 Industries marketing team had a full and detailed roadmap of what they wanted to do and when, and this had to be completely redone as a result of the delay. The same goes for the legal department, which advises, among other things, what the marketing team should and should not say.

Phil Spencer previously spoke about Lee leaving, and it was here that he mentioned that when audiences learn something doesn’t always fit the timeline of events that actually happen, which it would be here. Infinite Halo might in fact be further along in their development than many realize, but due to marketing and legislation this news would not immediately be made public. For this reason, from now on, Infinite Halo is scheduled for a 2021 release, but not much else is known.
