Lake Tahoe: 6 confirmed dead in plane crash

Six deaths have been confirmed in a jet crash near a golf course in the Lake Tahoe area, authorities said on Wednesday.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said everyone aboard the Bombardier CL 600 died when it crashed Monday in a heavily forested area near the Ponderosa Golf Course in Truckee, near the northern border of California with Nevada. Authorities initially said three people died in the crash.

The identity of the victims has not been disclosed pending DNA identification. No one on the ground was injured.

The plane descended several blocks from a runway as the pilot attempted to land at Truckee-Tahoe Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane caught fire, but the fire was quickly extinguished.

The National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday that two of its investigators were at the scene to investigate the crash.
