Isaiah Thomas played three games, a total of 48 minutes for the Pelicans last season at age 31, as he tried to prove he had recovered from his hip injuries and other injuries that have slowed down the career of the double All-Star. He also played for the United States team during their World Cup qualification.
Then he came out and lost 81 in the Seattle pro-am recently – not exactly an NBA level competition, but 81 is worth 81.

All of this is enough for the Lakers to consider a Thomas and LeBron James reunion, according to Marc Stein.
The Lakers, among the various free agent candidates they are still considering, have assessed the potential signing of Isaiah Thomas, according to league sources.

The Lakers still have three spots on the open roster, but could very well fill just two, leaving room for later additions or trade deadline maneuvers. All these must be filled with at least veteran players.
Is Thomas a better signing than other available free agents who could take that minimum, such as Wesley Matthews, Avery Bradley, James Ennis, Paul Millsap (who might want and get more than the minimum), JJ Redick, Dante Exum and Patrick Patterson? The Lakers could also bring back Jared Dudley. Some of these players may be better suited and less risky than Thomas.
But if LeBron wants Thomas, the Lakers will have Thomas.
