The Baltimore Ravens are banged up and clinging to last place in the AFC playoffs after their 23-17 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday night – and they’re not happy either.
“We’re ticked off,” Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said. “Nobody likes to lose … especially when we have a lot of talent on our team. We just have to regroup.”
The Ravens (6-3) have lost more games than last season, when they went 14-2 and finished atop the AFC list. Baltimore is three games behind the Pittsburgh Steelers (9-0), leading the AFC North, and sits in 7th place in the AFC playoffs.
On a heavy rainy night at Gillette Stadium, the Ravens scored their fewest points since Jackson took over as a starting quarterback. They had set an NFL record scoring 20 or more points in 31 straight games.
The loss came after Jackson said last week on the “Rich Eisen Show” that defenders called the Ravens games.
When asked if Patriots defensemen telegraph parts of Baltimore, Jackson replied, “No, no, we were doing a great job. [offensive coordinator Greg Roman] was composing it. We just need to finish the discs. “
Injuries begin to mount for Baltimore. Two weeks after All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley suffered a season-ending ankle injury, tight end Nick Boyle was sacked from the pitch on Sunday with a knee injury that took end of the season.
“These guys are huge,” Jackson said. “They’re great players for us. We need them. They’re starters for a reason. We don’t like to see any of our guys fall.”
At the end of the game, the Ravens were without four starters in defense due to injuries: defensive end Calais Campbell (calf), nose tackle Brandon Williams (ankle), cornerback Jimmy Smith (ankle) and inside linebacker LJ Fort (finger).
Baltimore’s next two games are at home against Tennessee (6-3) and Pittsburgh, undefeated.
“We’re just going to stay together. We’re going to build,” Jackson said. “It’s a team, a goal. We’re good.”
