After a training camp and a pre-season to see which competitor would be the starter at the left guard position when the Packers open the 2019 season in Chicago on September 5th, Green Bay Packers head coach , Matt LaFleur, went with the holder, but made it clear that the competition would be in progress in the season.

LaFleur, via radio WTMJ-AM:

I just think it's a comfort factor. You have an experienced player. I think Elgton is a guy who has a lot to learn but I think there is a lot to love about Elgton. I think he has a bright future.

It will be a competition throughout the season, but Lane Taylor is currently the starter.

Taylor had what could only be considered a low year in 2018 and there was some speculation that the Packers could move from the veteran guard if Jenkins won the position.

Personally, I'm glad they stayed with Taylor. I think he should have a rebound year and he has proven that he can fight if necessary. Add a promising rookie to Jenkins and the offensive line suddenly seems to have some depth.

It's been a long time since you can say that with confidence about Packers.
