Larry King’s former wife will dispute his will.
Shawn King, the famous broadcaster’s seventh wife, was still legally married to him when he died on January 23, despite filing for divorce in August 2019. She said she was surprised to learn that he had secretly updated her will – in a handwritten document, written shortly after her divorce petition, which ruled her out – and she will fight it in court,
“We had a very tight family estate plan,” said Shawn, mother of reporter Chance and Cannon’s sons. Last week news broke that Larry wrote a handwritten amendment to his will on October 17, 2019 – about two months after filing for divorce – leaving his $ 2 million estate to his five children.
Shawn told Page Six that she and Larry became close friends again after filing for a divorce and they talk to each other on a daily basis. She said, “It beats me!” when asked why she thinks he wrote the amended will. And “based on the timeline, it just doesn’t make sense.”
She added that she thought someone influenced her to create the amended will, but didn’t want to say who.
And although she will fight for what the newspaper called a “meager” amount – a $ 2 million tranche already divided into five parts – she said she would fight, saying, “That’s the principle. “
Shawn said his two sons, Cannon and Chance, were also unaware of the amended will and were “shocked”. They will support his legal battle, she said, adding: “They are not happy about this.
Making the estate split more complicated, two of Larry’s children named in his 2019 will – Andy and Chiara – both died last year, weeks apart, from various illnesses. Larry has another son, Larry Jr.
Shawn spoke out after Larry died, sharing the details of their goodbye, via FaceTime from the hospital, and how he told her he loved her and asked her to take care of their sons. She also shared that the whole family wore her signature suspenders at the funeral service.
“Larry and I, you know, we never finalized our divorce,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “In my heart, I didn’t think this was really going to happen and it never happened. We were partners in every sense of the word, in business, and finally in our family, then in business. we’re close family. You know, family is the most important thing, and God. “
Larry – who has been married eight times to seven women – recounted People in 2020, that he would still “take care” of his wife, but that “it has reached a point where we just don’t get along.” He explained: “We had a big age difference and it ends up taking its toll. It has become a problem. Also, [Shawn] am a very religious mormon and i am an agnostic atheist which ends up causing little problems.
