Joe Pierro, owner of the Market Grille Cafe in Las Vegas, Nevada told “Fox & Friends Weekend” that he and his employees are “shocked” by the city’s renewed mandate on COVID-19 indoor masks and what it could mean for business.
“I’m not sure what’s going on,” Pierro said on Sunday. “I thought the whole idea of getting the vaccine is that it saves us having to wear a mask. All the signs out there tell me it’s not going in the right direction, I agree.”
Pierro said the new order, which followed Los Angeles County’s decision to step up indoor mask wear, “it all happened so quickly.”
“We are just shocked,” he continued. “All the struggles we have had to get to where we are today, and knowing that we may have to go back.”
“Do we really have to go back here again?” Pierro asked later.
Small businesses across the country have struggled or even been forced to close this past year amid strict COVID-19 mandates that often kept customers at home.
Los Angeles County explained on Friday that the city’s renewed mandate on masks would be applied regardless of the immunization status of individuals.
“We are not where we need to be for the millions of people at risk of infection here in Los Angeles County, and waiting to do something will be too late, given what we are seeing,” said the Dr Muntu Davis, LA County Health Officer. in virtual press briefing.

However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said that due to a current lack of funding, his ministry would not devote resources to carrying out the resurrected mandate.
“The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) has the authority to enforce the order, but the underfunded / funded Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will not spend our limited resources and instead request a voluntary compliance, “Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Friday. “We encourage the DPH to work with the supervisory board and law enforcement to establish mandates that are both achievable and science-backed.”
