The musical follows a precocious 5-year-old girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers, which she uses to protect her friends and turn the tide on bullies.

Lynch plays Miss Honey, described as a “kind teacher who encourages Matilda and her gifts.”

While Matilda has yet to be chosen, Ralph Fiennes was committed to playing Mrs. Trunchbull, continuing a tradition of male characters representing the director.

The character was portrayed by a female in the 1996 film adaptation, with Pam Ferris taking on the role, but the musical still featured a male actor like Trunchbull, including Bertie Cavell, Bryce Ryness, Craige Els, along with Craig Bierko even stepping in as a replacement on Broadway.

The role of Miss Honey also represents a big change, with the role played by white women.

Embeth Davidtz portrayed the Professor in the 1996 film adaptation, with the roles played by Lauren Ward, Jennifer Bowles, and Carly Thoms in the musical.
