Late Night reflects on the legacy of ‘He Who Shall Be Shameless’

Late-night hosts couldn’t help but share their excitement on Tuesday, President Trump’s last full day in the White House.

“This is the eve of the day we have all been waiting for, because tonight is the last show we will do during the Presidency of the One Who Shall Be Shameless,” said Stephen Colbert.

Conan O’Brien gave us the closing credits of the Trump administration, completing America’s “four-year relationship” with a cast of memorable characters.

Jimmy Kimmel wondered whether, in the end, becoming president was worth it for Trump.

“Six years ago we were all perfectly fine to let him continue to babble in New York City, posing as a billionaire. He could have hosted golf tournaments, done TGI Fridays commercials, played that role he created of the wealthy tycoon. He could have bought a few new helicopters, a few new wives, and we would all just roll our eyes and say, ‘Oh, it’s Donald Trump. I probably would have landed a nice gig as a cranky TV judge on a hooded celebrity pie tasting contest. This is where Donald Trump belonged. But now most of the country despises him; most of the world despises him. We have found that he does not pay any taxes; he does not have money; he is subject to criminal prosecution in New York. No one will do business with him. Impossible to organize a golf tournament; can no longer even operate a carousel in his hometown. His wife hates him; her kids are screwed. He must end up in this Cheesecake Factory with a golf course in Florida where he lives for the rest of his life. He will no longer be able to invite centers into his office, and he will generally be considered the worst president in US history. So, was it worth it? For him it probably was, but it’s over now. – JIMMY KIMMEL
