Latest Framber Valdez News – MLB Trade Rumors

Framber Valdez has yet to give up throwing in 2021. He plans to avoid surgery and rehabilitate his broken ring finger with an eye on his comeback later this season, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman (via Twitter). Earlier reports suggested Valdez could miss the entire season after being recommended for surgery. It is clear that a final decision has not yet been made.

Despite the signing of Jake odorizzi to a two-year deal, the Astros would of course welcome a healthy Valdez into the fold. Still, the fact that Houston felt the need to come out and finalize a deal for Odorizzi less than a week after Valdez’s injury suggests they aren’t that optimistic, writes Athletic’s Jake Kaplan. Even if Valdez returns, however, he’s likely to miss a good chunk of the time.

One of the stars of the 2020 playoffs, Valdez drove his signature curve ball to a 1.88 ERA in four playoff appearances while eliminating 29% of opponents. This effort was based on a quieter but no less encouraging ERA of 3.57 / 2.85 FIP over 70 ⅔ of innings during the regular season.
