It’s safe to say CJ Hendersons stock with the Jaguars has plummeted since the previous regime made him the 9th overall pick just a year ago. The second-year cornerback is now in trade rumors, and his position with Urban Meyer seems less than ideal.
Meyer and Assistant Head Coach Charlie Fort recently visited Henderson’s residence to meet with him, Strong said on Tuesday (via John Reid of the Florida Times-Union). Henderson has only been on the field for two of the Jaguars’ 11 practices at training camp. He spent time on the team’s reserve / COVID-19 roster and missed the offseason schedule due to shoulder labrum surgery. Before the shoulder injury cut his season short, Henderson started eight games as a rookie. He hasn’t been a regular participant since that mid-season injury.
The ex-Florida Gator appeared disinterested in the Jags’ training, according to Reid, and he did not show up for the team’s scrum on Sunday for personal reasons. Strong, however, said he was trying to help Henderson get back on track with the team.
“We didn’t have to pick him up to come to the facility, we just had a chat with himStrong said of him and Meyer’s visit with Henderson, via Reid. “Whenever you have a great young man like that, you want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to help him. We know he can make us a much better football team. He wants to play. He will do anything to come back. “
Recent reports have indicated that league officials believe Henderson is available and the Saints are interested. Meyer, at least publicly, has not expressed the same kind of support for Henderson over Strong. When asked if Henderson would be able to overcome this streak of absences, the freshman Jags HC offered an “I don’t know”. It’s also unclear whether Henderson will play in Jacksonville’s preseason opener this week. Griffon Shaquill, Sidney jones and second round rookie Tyson campbell have been the main corners of the Jags so far in the camp.
