The Mandalorian Gina Carano – who plays the former mercenary and current Marshal of the New Republic Cara Dune in the hit Star wars series – has faced a lot of controversy online over the past few months.

All along The Mandalorian Season 2, the actress has been constantly touring entertainment news sites due to her Tweets that divide on a variety of social and political issues, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Carano followers fall on both sides of these topics, with opposite hashtags – #WeLoveCaraDune, #IStandWithCaraDune, and #FireGinaCarano – trending at various points. #FireGinaCarano most recently even earlier this week following a Lucasfilm article that paid tribute to those who have lost their lives to the coronavirus.
Carano – which received the support of Mandalorian co-stars like leading man Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin title bounty hunter), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze) and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) – long expected to receive his own spinoff series, probably in the form of Rangers of the New Republic series that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed at Disney Investor Day 2020.

However, there have been unconfirmed reports that Carano’s Cara Dune will only appear on the show if she apologizes. Now a video has started circling online that supports the theory that Lucasfulm is distancing itself from Carano.
In a video posted yesterday [below], YouTube channel Itchy Bacca claims Lucasfilm artist Mark Raats has been asked to remove Carano from office Mandalorian art and replace it with the fan favorite Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars character, Ahsoka Tano (voiced by Ashley Eckstein / played live-action by Rosario Dawson), who debuted in Season 2, Episode 5 (“Chapter 13: The Jedi”).
Dawson is set to receive his own spinoff show, simply titled Ahsoka.

Fans have now discovered the Star wars piece of art in question on Raat’s official Twitter profile and Twitter users are starting to wonder why Tano is featured in the piece of art and why exactly Dune was apparently deleted.
The original post, from December, reads:
It was my great privilege to have once again been asked by Disney and Lucasfilm to create art for The Mandalorian. Many thanks to @DisneyAUNZ and @Lucasfilm for the fun ride.

Yesterday a Twitter user named Lee commented on his opinion:
Weird that you got rid of Cara… It seems obvious that Disney-Lucasfilm and your weird story group did it for Gina. If Cara leaves, there isn’t much to do.

Good work! However, how come Cara is not? Did LF specifically ask you to exclude Cara in art?

Another speaker shared these thoughts:
Excellent piece burn where is Cara Dune? Do you like Ashoka but Cara played a central role in both seasons? And the magistrate was one of the weakest figures in IMO. Couldn’t you have chosen another villain if you needed balance? Weird choices of comp.

As of yet, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney executives have commented on this specific piece of art or the future of the former female MMA fighter with The Mandalorian.
Showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni also stayed in Carano’s place in The Mandalorian the saga is moving forward.
What do you think of this situation?
