Health authorities are threatening to shut down the Pittsburgh suburban coke plant, located in the suburbs of US Steel, unless it complies with air emission standards.
The Allegheny County Health Department issued an emergency ordinance on Monday after a fire in the steel producer 's coke plant in Clairton destroyed the company' s ### 1 ###################################################################################### Equipment used to remove toxic gases.
Health officials said that the United States of America had to submit a plan within 24 hours and meet the emission limits for hydrogen sulphide and sulfur dioxide within 20 days.
The Department of Health said air traffic controllers had not detected high levels of sulfur dioxide from the early morning fire. Officials say residents should be aware of the potential for high levels of gas, but need not take any precautions yet.

Health officials from western Pennsylvania said that a fire at Clairton Coke Works, US-based US Steel, had shut down pollution control systems and that residents were warned of possible high levels of sulfur dioxide.
The Allegheny County Health Department announced that a fire in an electrical breaker panel shortly after Monday morning, shut down three control rooms and that two still unused equipment was being used to control the pollution, including desulfurization.
According to the authorities, the elderly, parents of children and people with respiratory problems should be aware that high levels of sulfur dioxide are possible.
US Steel says it is taking mitigation measures, such as replacing the coke oven gas with natural gas and flaring during the repair of the damage.
The same two control rooms were damaged by a Christmas Eve fire in the amount of $ 40 million.
