Houston police say they found evidence of blood in Darion Vence's apartment that matches Maleah Davis, a missing four-year-old girl.
In a statement about Vence's arrest, Houston police say he was accused of falsifying evidence.
They also said that Vence had been seen carrying a full laundry basket from the apartment.
The laundry basket was found in the trunk of Nisson Altima, a silver object from Vence, which was found in Missouri City, Texas on Thursday.
Vence reported last Saturday that Maleah had been kidnapped.

The man who reported that a 4-year-old Texas girl had been kidnapped last weekend was arrested near Houston.
Alfredo Perez, spokesman for the southern Marshals District, said Darion Vence was arrested Saturday at his brother's home in Sugar Land, Texas, about 35 km southwest of Houston.
Perez says the Houston Police Department has asked the US Marshals to help him execute the arrest warrant. It was not known immediately if the arrest was related to the disappearance of Maleah Davis. Houston police could not be contacted for comment.
Vence told police last Saturday that men in a van had kidnapped him, Maleah and his 2-year-old son, before releasing him as well as the boy. But the Sugar Land police, who initially interrogated her, said her story kept changing and she was not moving forward.
