Latest news on finding a 4-year-old girl who went missing in Houston (all local times):

7:30 p.m.

Police in the suburbs of Houston said that a Texas man who had reported the disappearance of his 4-year-old daughter-in-law Saturday had changed stories several times in his first interviews.

Houston police said Darion Vence had told investigators that Maleah Davis had been abducted more than 24 hours earlier by men in a van that had knocked him out but then let him go with his son 2 years old.

But Vence was first questioned by Sugar Land police, and a spokesman for the county's department said his account had "changed several times".

Houston police conducts the investigation. They say that it continues and that they do not identify "people of interest or suspects unless charges are laid".

A phone message requesting a comment left to a number indicated for Vence was not immediately returned.

Sugar Land is about 35 km southwest of Houston.

A 4-year-old Houston girl, missing since her father-in-law was abducted, was previously taken from her home by state employees concerned about allegations of physical abuse.

Officials from the state's child protection services in Houston said Maleah Davis was removed from his home in August after a head injury and then brought home in February. His two brothers were also abducted during this period. All three were placed with relatives.

SPC social workers have been monitoring the house since the children's return.

Researchers are looking for the girl after her father-in-law announced that he had stopped their vehicle Friday night to check a tire when the men stopped behind them.

Darion Vence told the authorities that he had lost consciousness and that when he woke up the next day, Maleah was gone.
