The family of a US Army veteran suspected of planning terrorist attacks in California is surprised by his arrest.
In a statement on Monday, Mark Domingo's family made no further comments on the charges against the 26-year-old. The statement also asked for privacy.
Federal prosecutors said that Domingo had converted to Islam and was demanding retaliation for attacks on mosques in New Zealand.
The younger brother of the suspect, James Domingo, told the press outside the home of the family in Los Angeles that he hoped that Mark's religious conversion would offer him advice.
James Domingo refused to say he believed his brother was guilty or innocent. He said that he would "wait for the trial".
Mark Domingo was arrested on Friday for providing material support to the terrorists. We do not know if he has a lawyer.

Federal prosecutors announced Monday that Mark Domingo had been arrested for planning to plant a bomb at a Nazi rally Sunday in Long Beach.
Domingo was arrested on Friday for providing material support to the terrorists. The rally never took place.
Court documents indicate that Domingo discussed several types of attacks with an informant, including attacks targeting Jews, churches and police.
He said he wanted revenge for attacks on mosques in New Zealand that killed 50 people last month.
A message left on a phone listed for Domingo was not immediately returned.
