The closed prison of Šķirotava and his property have been transferred to the Ministry of Social Affairs in November 2016. The VNIS strategy provides for the preservation of promising badets in the portfolio of state badets, incl. such as those needed for the provision of state functions, as well as commercially profitable properties. According to representatives of WNIS, badets that will not be used for state functions in the future, and that are not profitable to hold them in the VNF portfolio and to invest in their development,

In total, 17 objects participated in the auction, but there are three: the Šķirotava prison with its buildings (three addresses: Krustpils 63, Asotes iela 2 and Raiumsila Street 1, Riga) and two other properties in Tukums and Saldus district. The old buildings of the Skrunda vocational high school were offered for re-auction, with the territory for which they did not ask.

It has already been reported that the Šķirotava Prison was closed on November 1, 2014. Ilona Spure, head of the Prison Service (IVP), had previously indicated that maintaining half a prison in Latvia would not be economically and economically correct. Spure also pointed out that the number of prisoners has significantly decreased and "this allows us to invent the living conditions in all prisons in Latvia and to organize the placement of categories of prisoners in accordance with the law."
