Already in 2019, the first devices to support 5G technology will be available on the market. This will allow entrepreneurs to increase the productivity of their businesses by helping them to work faster and more efficiently.
5G technology has several advantages. First, the higher the speed of the Internet. The expected speed of 5G technology, which will be measured in gigabits per second, compared to the typical speed of 4G (megabits per second), will allow faster transfer of large amounts of data. For example, FullHD quality movies can be downloaded in seconds rather than in minutes. Second, a larger bandwidth, which will allow the network to add many more devices and sensors at once, providing users with a more positive experience using data services. And thirdly, the latency or delay of the signal is about a millisecond instead of the current 30 to 40 milliseconds, which will ensure even faster "communication" or connectivity between the devices and the mobile network. Its live games can be enjoyed in real time and with the same quality as an optical wiring connection.
One such live or live video was in the Phoenix Olympics bobsleigh competition, when camcorders attached to sports helmets were broadcast live from the pilots' point of view. It was one of the South Korean experiences on the practical use of 5G. Maybe many have not noticed, but it would be difficult to get a video of this quality with 4G technology.
Therefore, the mobile operator is making great efforts to prepare as closely as possible for the implementation of 5G standards and related technologies, especially to ensure adequate availability of radio frequencies. In October, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Board extended the use right to SIA Unistars, a subsidiary of BITES, for five radio frequency bands and two 26 GHz (GHz) channels for ten years. As a result, compared to other operators, BITEI currently has the largest number of frequencies available, in accordance with the 5G guidelines, which were approved at the end of last year.
The 360-degree video offered during the Olympic figure skating, which has been stopped, could detail the quality of any jump or turn, revealing very well the changes that have occurred in the entertainment and leisure industry, which will promote 5G technology. You simply need to equip the stadium with the local 5G network and use the reality elements added to the broadcast to get more entertaining entertainment for your TVs, personal computers or mobile devices.
The ability to create a high quality local area network to meet the needs of your business is one of the great benefits of this technology, which will have a significant impact on the development of the Internet of Things (IoT).
The 5G network will be able to provide a very large number of connections (about one million per square kilometer) with low power consumption. In addition, different solutions and services at different speeds and with guaranteed quality will be possible simultaneously in the same overlapping area. For example, one layer will support the stadium network, the other – the connected car (connected cars) but another – read the gauges remotely or monitor patients.
However, there are currently technological solutions to develop the IoT network in accordance with the existing mobile network standard. BITE is the first mobile operator in Latvia to launch the launch of the "Narrowband Internet of Things" (NB-IoT) technology. It provides high quality indoor coverage and high connectivity density, which is important for the IoT network.
In Latvia, one of the best examples of industrial applications on the Internet is the smart meters installed by the "distribution network", which uses among others BITĖ SIM cards.
These meters themselves send consumption data, which allows their users to constantly monitor the electricity consumption in the mobile application as well as the price changes using them in their favor. 5G network continuity or low latency will make electricity accounting even more efficient.
Highly accurate and stable electricity accounting is important for companies that require a lot of energy and inaccuracies on a continuous basis, otherwise excessive consumption can lead to additional costs. It is not for nothing that the first tests of BITE on the NB-IoT are conducted with Teliko, specialized in the design, development and production of intelligent systems for controlling street lighting, remote energy meter readers and power grid monitoring. Meanwhile, a smart lighting system in the territory of VEF Riga is under test.
The introduction of NB-IoT allows us to create a high-quality online Internet now, stimulating industries where modern technological solutions can be an important prerequisite for development or security. Perhaps we should also learn from South Korea and Australia, who are starting to use autonomous drones specially equipped for monitoring large areas.
For example, the Australian non-profit organization Surf Life Saving NSW, looking for a drone emergency, conducts research at an altitude of 60 meters and at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour. When you find a swimmer, dummies release an inflatable float that helps a person to stay on top of the water. This is what is happening today while a low latency 5G network would allow drones to move in automatic mode and communicate autonomously with rescue helicopters.
The wider use of Internet devices and the predictability of 5G network continuity will allow remote connections and automation of many processes, allowing for more accurate manufacturing, where the margin of tolerance for manufactured products is less than one. millimeter, or telemedicine.
It is anticipated that health services will be one of the areas in which the development of the 5G network will enable many newcomers to present inconceivable solutions, such as new levels of robotic and remote surgery. The consulting firm Deloitte estimates for example that the digital health market in the United Kingdom will increase to 2.9 billion pounds this year.
Mobile operators are making every effort to technically prepare for the introduction of the 5G network and hope that entrepreneurs will appreciate the benefits of the new technology and will be able to use it to their advantage.
