The board of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) met Sunday in Monaco decided to abandon the maintenance of the Russian Federation of Athletics, fearing the falsification of the documents of athletes and the refusal of the occupation of disqualified coaches, said the BBC. The dismissal of a disqualification could prevent Russian athletes from starting their national flag in the fall of the world championship.
The activities of the Russian Federation of Athletics within the IAAF have been suspended since November 2015, when the independent commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) found evidence of the participation of Public bodies involved in the maintenance of the anti-doping system. A part of Russian Athletics, whose compliance with anti-doping conditions is considered appropriate, may be recognized internationally as an independent athlete.
The IAAF had previously set two conditions for the renewal of the Russian Athletics Federation. Russia must cover the corresponding costs of 3.2 million USD incurred by the IAAF during the disqualification period, as well as the availability of anti-doping laboratory data from Moscow. Russia has paid the bill and WADA has obtained hundreds of gigabytes of data from the Moscow laboratory, but these have not yet been evaluated or found to be in compliance.
The Russian Athletics Federation had other complications because of reports that officials had participated in the counterfeiting of documents in order to help the world champion in high jump at D & D Ilil Lisenko. The skipper did not report his position to the anti-doping supervisors, but was subsequently given a medical sign that he was unable to do so due to illness.
The next meeting of the IAAF Council is scheduled for 23 September. Five days later, Doha, the capital of Qatar, will start the world championship.
After the world championships organized by the IAAF in October, it will become the organization of the global lobby of athletics. The IAAF Council voted to change the name of the organization to develop a new brand that would not be linked to doping and corruption scandals and become more attractive to the younger generation.
