On July 17, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) sentenced Russia for authorities and the courts in two of the noisiest cases in the history of modern Russia. The ECHR concluded that Russia had not conducted an appropriate investigation into the murder of the Kremlin's critical journalist Anna Politkovskaya in 2006 in order to track down the killer or the clerk. The court also said that Russia had violated several articles of the human rights convention when it was arrested and detained by members of the Punk Riot in 2012. Including them denied a fair trial and violated the right to freedom of expression.

. Vladimir Putin, a Chechen war critic, was shot dead in his home in Moscow in 2006. A few years ago, five men were found guilty of his hiding place, but it is not known who ordered the murder.
The Politkovskaya family complained to the European Court of Human Rights that the Russian authorities had not investigated properly. The court ruled that Russia "failed to provide adequate investigative measures to find the person or persons indicted for murder".
Russia was sentenced to pay four members of the Politkovsk family – mother, sister and two children – [20]. On Tuesday, the European Court of Human Rights issued a separate judgment in the protests of Punk Riot. Three members of the group caught the world's attention in 2012 when they organized a campaign in the Moscow Savior's Cathedral in Moscow to protest Putin's regime.
They were arrested and sentenced for "religious hooliganism motivated by hate". All three were sentenced to two years in prison. Two prisoners spent 16 months and the third was released after a few months
The European Court of Human Rights finds that Russia has violated five articles of the human rights convention in this case. The group members were humiliated, denied fair trial and violated their right to freedom of expression.
The Court also ordered Russia to pay compensation of 16,000 euros to each member of the group and the third to pay 5,000 euros. He arrested four members of the Pussy Riot group – three women and one man who ran on the football tournament square to protest human rights violations in Russia
