"For active growth and development, active opposition is needed," said Kaspars Gorkšs, who had stopped his football career a year ago and had engaged in administrative processes. After a strong pre-election campaign in April, he became president of the Latvian Football Federation. If he had written a book, there would have been a chapter in many genres: a drama, a thriller, a comedy. Few people run around the federation and try to put their ambitions in the foreground, but that only increases its motivation to operate at full capacity.
What did you change in the federation without mentioning the secretary general?
K. Gorkš: Do not sweep it all and sit in an empty room is not the right thing to do. I have a team of pbadionate young people and everyone in their department is working towards achieving our goals. Football is an environment in which everyone would like to play as many times as possible. To ensure that random results are not always the main feature of the Latvian football situation.
For now, it's on the tongue because the UEFA League results are unfortunate.
There is nothing to defy – the goal was to win the group, which we did not achieve not only in terms of points, but also in terms of the quality of the game, the goal and stability of the match. There was a very interesting tournament in the League of Nations, the first task was to fill, because before we could say that we wanted to be the second, the third, go to the games of exclusion, but after the lottery , we understood that there are two favorites and that there must be a coincidence of circumstances, success, hope more. But Group D of the League of Nations was forced to win.
It was very interesting for me to see how footballers, coaches and the federation can cope with the task and the pressure of winning, because it's different from the pressure – do not lose, play as much as possible. Unfortunately, no win against equal teams has been won, it is unacceptable.
What were the main problems?
We have not seen the maximum self-loading on the spot, win the reader, understand why play, what we stand for. Unfortunately, I did not see it – there were emotions around the game, before and after, in the conversation in the locker room, but I could not take up this task on the spot. We continued playing in the previous qualifying tournament. But the opponents were, in theory, our caliber, those who had already won were always a challenge. Beware of stronger opponents that you have to make the most of something to hope for, but this time you can not change, take the game into your own hands, pursue yourself victoriously.
Is it the responsibility of the head coach or anything?
The coach is part of the team, the responsibility is shared. The last thing to do is to search for the author. A top coach can probably consolidate the team and, in the middle, get the result, but a bad coach can not do it even with a big team. I do not speak of an individual. The composition of Dad's work will be badessed by the LFF Coaching Council's Board of Directors and will decide on next steps. There were also positive features: trends in public space, creativity and spirit training were very good, including Miksu's contribution outside of the national team, namely participation in the regional development and new talent.
His work capacity and personal fulfillment are by no means doubtful, but football in the context of the national selection is the result of the company.
We often talk about the FIFA rankings. Perhaps we must stop deceiving ourselves because we are unduly so low in 132nd place, for some time now. Football does not lie on the pitch, and our game has shown that the place matches the level of self-control and eventually mastery.
Do football players receive bonuses to play in the team?
In the past, there were calls and bonuses for the winning score in each match, corresponding to the amount against the opponents. When I registered in the selection, before each party named the amount of the bonus, the opposing teams were then divided into blocks, which determined the amount of bonuses. The range was wide – from a few hundred to several thousand.
When we concluded that the previous World Cup qualifying round bonus had risen to more than two hundred thousand euros, it has become a little uncomfortable.
We turn now to the model of the stimulants and the bonuses are linked to the goal. For the victory in the League of Nations, the footballers receive each five hundred euros. If they win the first place in the group, the accumulated bonuses will increase three times. We refused to pay the call because I want to introduce a culture according to which it is an honor and a privilege to play in the national selection. The invitation to the selection must be a motivation, nothing is more emotionally saturated than entering the team under a random jersey on the international stage.
I have received both bonuses and bonuses, and I can say that I scream for the moment, but this is our position because we think the bonus should not be the main incentive to play in the game. Latvian team. For me, money has never been the engine of selection, I deserved to play in England and in other countries.
But we are talking about a lot of bonuses of football players.
Unfortunately, today's money is in the foreground in so many areas. The wish of the athlete to win as much as possible is welcome, but it is a job and a short period of time allows you to play at a high level. But this can never be the ultimate goal in the long run.
But the incentive bonus system does not encourage football players to focus solely on league games.
We talk a lot about the fact that our player is not motivated, inert, wins a lot in the Latvian league. With these limiting factors, we have placed new players in the comfort zone,
We currently have a generation that does not want to play abroad, because it's comfortable enough at the moment, but leaving is badociated with many challenges, both in social life and in sport .
If we want to hope for good results, young footballers should play as much as possible at high level abroad, where they are fighting for their place under the sun. The under-19 team is a good example, as many come from foreign academies and have a thirst for a strong desire for results and such sporty shyness. If you get used to it everyday, the team will not go away.
What salary do the Latvian teams talk about?
I do not want to speculate with numbers. Everyone already likes to whisper and count foreign money, but it is clear that I have heard about the forged sums and that I think they will grow next year. Because there will be a qualification for the European Championship, which means that the clubs will receive money from the UEFA – for each player who is part of it. team, and in the previous cycle, they were six thousand euros. Thus, the club can get a significant compensation for having a lot of random players and thus reap the pay for the money spent. But that will not encourage the growth of these players.
Which club director told me that competitors in Riga promise 10 to 15,000 euros a month.
If that were the case, I would be ready to resume my professional career. According to the informal discussions, we can say that the figures are inadequate compared to current Latvian footballers. Of course, this greatly reduces their motivation to play abroad, but even if it does, we will hardly use high level players.
In fact, I am really surprised that footballers themselves do not understand that they are called disgruntled, overpaid and unmotivated. And this is not only the average Latvian footballer, but even their clubs, who are trying to remove the limits imposed on foreign players in order to limit somehow the increase in salaries of local footballers. Personally, all these statements, and perhaps more, what I said in this interview, have motivated a hundred times more than a few hundred euros to be paid for the selection of calls.
Why did not we decide this summer on the number of teams next season?
The championship is held in accordance with the rules of procedure, which had been adopted before the previous season, can not change it. Ten or eight squadrons – this debate has been launched by both journalists and members of the football community. I can not stop people from speculating, but on that basis we can not make decisions. If I say before the Super League games, there will also be ten teams, which will jeopardize the integrity of the game.
Therefore, we thanked in time that the decision was made after the season (it was decided that next year the Super League would play against nine teams instead of the current strategy – IS). I agree that the situation is not perfect. We are developing a championship model for the next three or four years, so we do not have to go back to that situation.
