The project "Exploration of sacred musical heritage in Latvian Lutheran churches" was carried out by the Scientific Research Center of the Latvian Music Academy Jāzeps Vītols (JVLMA), which has become familiar with the Academy of Music Jāzeps Vītols (JVLMA).
Research on the sacred music heritage has been conducted in close connection with research on the intangible cultural heritage of Latvia. As part of the project, sacred music materials are documented and systematized in several Lutheran churches in Latvia.
"An examination of about 15 Lutheran churches in different regions of Latvia has created a first summary of musicals and collections of songs found in churches from ancient times to the present day," said Annija Bičule. , spokesperson for JVLMA.
The set of documented documents includes 330 books of music and printed songs, as well as 25 handwriting units. The data obtained is systematized in the catalog according to the location of the material, its type and its chronology.
The documentary material was obtained at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Riga Jesus and St. Paul, St. Anne of St. Jelgava and St. John, Sloka, Smiltene, Palsmane and Talsi.
In some cases it has been stored in nearby museums, for example at the Aizkraukles History and Art Museum, Kalna Ziedi, and at the local art and history museum. Madona.
It is expected that this project will become an essential source of investigations for the future of the history of Latvian music.
