By December 1, drivers are calling for the replacement of tire tires designed for winter driving in summer conditions. However, there are also vehicles parked for long periods of time in garages and parking spaces, with the owners not planning to move with them in the winter. David Lelwald, director of the vehicle reimbursement group at Gjensidige Latvija, invites drivers to focus on the important tips to keep in mind when parking a car for long periods.
The car must be cleaned properly
It is important to clean the interior and superstructure before throwing the car. First, free him from everything in his cabin and make sure nothing is damaged, such as food, flowers, etc. It is advisable to clean the cabin to avoid unpleasant odors. The body must be thoroughly washed, dried and covered with wax.
In the case of a car parked in a garage or in another warehouse, it is advisable to think about how to protect your car from various guests, such as mice that enter the car and leave undesirable traces.
Tire
First of all, it is advisable to make sure that the tires of the car have the necessary air pressure and, if one of the tires loses it faster, to change it to time. Secondly, it is necessary to ensure that the vehicle is driven when the car is sloping. This can be done by leaving a simple piece of wood or a brick under the tire.
For total safety, the car can be raised, completely releasing the pressurized tires. If you do not have the necessary tools to do so safely, it is advisable to call in specialists.
Appropriate fluid refill
When the car is idling, it is advisable to use a fuel stabilizer. It is necessary to pour it into the tank before the last refueling, in order to place the car in the long-term storage. Fuel stabilizers protect the fuel from oxidation and corrosion of the engine and prevent the formation of resins in fuel systems.
It is also recommended to replace the oil and its filters in the car and check the level of all other liquids in the car. It is advisable to remove the battery from the car and store it at room temperature as it may freeze and crack in cold weather.
Car cover
In cases where the car is tidy on the outside, it is worth investing in a quality and waterproof cover. It must be firmly fixed so that the wind does not stop and is made of a breathable material so that moisture does not fall under the cover.
If the car is intended to be stored inside, you can choose a simpler cover that will protect it from dust and dirt. Before putting it on, do not forget to remove the antenna if necessary.
