For the first time in several years, a delegation of the US legislature arrived in Moscow. In anticipation of improving relations between the two states, US senators met with Russian parliamentarians on Tuesday, July 3.
This visit took place two weeks before the next meeting of US and Russian Presidents this month in the Finnish capital Helsinki. At the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Richard Shelby, head of the US delegation, said the two countries had common interests in which the parties could work by putting aside their disagreements.
Lavrov congratulated American politicians that their visit would symbolize the resumption of relations between the US and Russian legislatures.
US-Russian relations deteriorated significantly after the occupation of the Crimean peninsula by Ukraine. The situation is also complicated by the suspicion of Russia's suffering in the US elections and the disagreement over the Syrian conflict
