In the third quarter, the highest average gross wages were recorded in the finance and insurance sectors (1932 euros), information and communication services (1584 euros), energy (1272 euros), public administrations (1260 euros), extractive industries (1186 euros). In the private sector, gross wages and salaries increased 7.7% in the third quarter to 992 euros, compared to 8.5% in the public sector to 1036 euros. In the general government sector, which includes state and local government institutions, the State Social Security Agency and state-owned and financed companies and local governments, the average gross earnings in the third quarter was 993 euros, an increase of 8.8% over the third quarter of 2017.

In the third quarter of 2018, the average net salary, calculated using work taxes applicable at the workplace, was 744 euros. During the year, it increased by 9.5%, with a faster growth rate of 1.5% compared to pre-tax salary.

On the other hand, the real increase in net wages, taking into account the 2.9% rise in consumer prices during the year, rose to 6.4% in the third quarter.

Average wage changes affect not only increases in employee wages and labor taxes, but also structural changes in the labor market – changes in the number of workers who started and stopped working during the year, changes in the number of employees and burdens in various sectors, as well as national administrative measures in the fight against the shadow economy. The impact of these factors usually results in changes in the salary fund and full-time staff in the calculation of average wages.

The gross wages fund grew by 9.6% or 203.4 million euros in the third quarter of 2018 compared to the third quarter of 2017, while the number of full-time recalculated employees increased 1.5% or EUR 11 400. .

In the third quarter of this year, the fastest growth was in the health and social services sector – 15.9% (faster growth – in the health sector), housing services and catering – 11.6% (faster in food services), 10.7% (faster at washing, dry cleaning, hairdressing, beauty, funerals and other personal services) and extractive industries – 10.6%.
