After evaluating the eight finalists of the Latvian television contest "Supernova", the Eurovision contest "Carousel" with the lyric song "That Night" was the right decision for LETA, the composer Raimonds Pauls.

He pointed out that this year, Latvia will perform a non-standard performance at the International Song Contest, in the form "let's go without fires" and with a single song.

In evaluating the rest of the Supernova finalists, Paul noted that the candidates were similar this year, namely that there was nothing to "jump".

When asked if "Carousel" could surprise Europe with his song in the spring, as did the Portuguese representative Salvador Sobrals at Eurovision 2017, Paul replied, "Look."

As indicated, Latvia will be represented at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel, by the duo "Carousel" with the song "That Night", which won the Saturday Supernova 2019 contest organized by television Latvian this Saturday night.

This performance surpbaded the other preselected finalists, leaving second place in the competition with Mark Riva, songwriter "You Make Me So Crazy" and the third group "Happiness Complete" with the song "Awe". The fourth place overall was "Double Faced Eels" with the song "Fire", fifth – the musical badociation "Deep violet feat. Kozmen" with "Folk song", sixth – Edgars Kreilis with the song "Cherry Absinthe ", seventh – Samanta Tina with the song" Cut the thread "and the eighth – Aivo Oskis with" Someone to my lover ".

The finals of "Supernova" were judged by a jury composed of the Baltic States' "Universal Music Group" conductor, Petri Mannonen, as well as family music professionals: the musician and DJ Artis Dvarionas, the singer Linda Leen and the editor musical score of "Pieci.lv" Rudolf Budze or DJ Rudd.

A total of 83 songs were submitted to Supernova for the fifth season, of which 64 complied with the competition rules.

A total of 42 countries will participate in this year's competition, 36 of which will participate in two semi-finals on May 14 and 16 this year. The finale is scheduled for May 18 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Latvia will start the second semifinal on 16 May. The final in the final is automatically offered to the so-called "big five" – ​​France, Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom, as well as to the 2018 winner in Israel.

The international competition will also be broadcast live on the 1st Latvian TV channel and on the homepage of "ltv.lv".
