Italy will affect 12 ships in Libya to fight human trafficking

The Italian government will allocate 12 ships to Libya to help fight human trafficking and curb the flow of migrants to Europe, Rome said.

The measures adopted by the Italian Government aim at "strengthening the operational capacity of the Libyan Coast Guard" to ensure "adequate leadership" in dealing with the situation of migrants in the Mediterranean,

The Italian Government will also be responsible the maintenance of the 12 vessels by the end of the year and will offer badistance to the Libyan coasts, to prevent human trafficking, protect human lives at sea and "reduce pressure migration ".

The total amount of aid is estimated at 2.5 million euros

"We know that this is not enough and that we must work to stabilize the situation, strengthen the the rule of law and protecting human dignity in Libya, "says Italian Minister of Transport

EU leaders have turned to migrant-survival nongovernmental organizations in recent weeks, arguing that these organizations indirectly help traffickers and hinder the security of the Libyan coast to save migrants.
