In order to ensure Latvia's participation in the international ecosystem of interconnected automotive technologies, while promoting the country's competitiveness and its technological accessibility at the international level, the SIA Latvijas Mobilis telefons (LMT), in cooperation with its partners, creates the International Organization of Intelligent Transport Systems of Latvia (ITS).

The Latvian ITS Association will function as an industry section within the Latvian Association of Information and Communication Technologies.

With the development of 4G and 5G, intelligent transportation technology is also growing rapidly. Connected cars, digital roads and, in the future, unmanned cars will provide sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly mobility solutions for the transfer of data, content and people.

Creating an appropriate regulatory environment and technological environment for interconnected transport solutions requires an international ecosystem of cooperation between telecom operators, data platform providers, car and sensor manufacturers, software developers, road infrastructure developers, and more. public sector.

At European level, cooperation in this area is coordinated by 27 ITS badociations. Latvia is one of the few countries in which it has not yet been created.

We are currently developing partner ecosystems for the development of intelligent transport system solutions, as Latvia has great potential for innovation in this area. The ministers of the three Baltic States signed an agreement on the creation of the Tallinn Baltic Digital Route in Vilnius in September this year.

During the summer of this year, LMT joined the International Automobile Association 5G (5G AA), as interconnected technological innovations based on 5G are one of the priorities from the company.

The board of directors supported the idea of ​​LIKTA and is currently working on the creation of an ITS badociation, with 8 partners already involved. Any industry-related organization in the public, private or non-governmental sectors is invited to join.

Signe Bāliņa, President of LIKTA, explains that information and communication technologies are playing an increasingly important role in all sectors – mobility, finance, medicine and others.

"Therefore, it is logical that specialized groups in the sector of technology technologies of a particular sector be formed within LIKTA, the ITS badociation is the first step in this direction," said S. Balina.
