July 24, 2019.
The information was prepared by the Shoulder Foundation.
On July 24, the first parent education pilot group of the parent education program created by the Shoulder Foundation began training. The program was created through donations from the community at the Give Five! 2018 "The next group training dates will be announced in August and you will be able to register for the training program on the Shoulder Foundation website.
The new parent education program is unique – it was designed specifically for Latvia and is the first program of its kind in the world specifically for young parents. The program is created in collaboration with the most powerful Latvian psychotherapists for children and families, including Nikita Bezborodov, pediatric psychotherapist of the Children's University Hospital, Andrija Likova, family psychotherapist and others, including TBRI experts ® Halo International Project.
The strength of the method lies in its neuroscientific basis, which makes it possible to understand that the behavioral manifestation of each child is directly related to his brain activity. The approach is also based on the theory of attachment, which explains the importance of early safety experiences in human life and proposes concrete strategies for designing, modifying and strengthening them. The method is practical because it will help parents learn to develop a stronger emotional bond with their child, to meet the sensory needs of their motor, to regulate their physical and emotional condition and to correct undesirable behaviors positively.
Since the beginning of 2019, specialists in the field have been working hard at developing and selecting trainers in Latvia to carry out the program:
Training methodology developed
In January, US specialists in collaboration with Latvian professionals, including pediatrician psychiatrist Nikita Bezborodov, developed a new, unique training methodology, designed specifically for Latvian coaches and tailored to Latvian context and needs.
The content, quality and teaching methods of the program are evaluated
In early February, a four-day training session on the TBRI® method was conducted by American instructors – Cindy Lee, Leah Gilliam and Sarah Mercado. The training included 135 people – aspiring coaches and experts in the field, including psychotherapists, teachers, social services and non-governmental organizations – who unanimously felt the content was good, practical and effective.
Selected trainers
In April, the Plecs Foundation began selecting coaches for the program by hosting two introductory events where coaches engaged in hands-on activities, introduced themselves and shared their experiences and goals in the context of the program. parenting education. A coaching motivation quiz has been developed to help select the most motivated, committed and experienced individuals. After the introductory ceremony, 42 potential coaches were selected.
Trained trainers
In May, a second training program for parents was organized. Coaches learned the content and methodology of the new program for three days under the guidance of mentors.
Collaborative partners were attracted and the method was extended to other sectors
Meetings were held with representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Prison Service and the State Probation Service to discuss the possibilities of introducing new educational programs also in schools and prisons . There is also a partnership with the Teen Resource Center to develop a holistic approach to the support, diagnosis and treatment of adolescent mental health.
Practical and thorough training of trainers is ensured
In July, Plecs organized a ten-person trainer task force, extensive training in adult training methodology and group psychology, and the first five coaches each presented a portion of their program.
